MEETING PLACE: McDonald’s Restaurant parking lot on M-32 just west of Alpena.
QUARRY/DIG STOPS: BURKHOLDER ROAD CUT, OLD ROCKPORT QUARRY,
LAFARGE QUARRY
LOOKING FOR: Devonian-age marine fossils :corals, crinoids, brachiopods, bryozoans, trilobites, cephalopods, and fish fossils in shales. Some minerals (calcite)
REQUIRED: HARD HAT, STEEL-TOED BOOTS, EYE PROTECTION (at La Farge)
RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES: HAMMERS, CHISELS, BUCKETS, NEWSPAPER, FLAT CARDBOARD BOXES, WARM CLOTHING, GLOVES, RAIN GEAR, FOOD, SNACKS, BEVERAGES.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Suggested to consider travel Friday night to ensure arriving on time. Drive time is 3 hours from Detroit. There are many motels in and around Alpena. Mention Paleo Joe at the Days Inn in Alpena for a special low rate!
